Ochieng Cha-ching!

Ok, so we stole that phrase from a sportscaster on the local Fox channel (WDSI maybe?) where he actually treated the Chattanooga FC game like it was a real sport (albeit after he had spent copious time reporting on golf and baseball first)… But we like it and felt that it captured Chris Ochieng’s valuable performance this past Saturday against Pumas FC. Both of his goals in the game helped to catapult Chattanooga FC into first place in the NPSL Southeast Division.

So, Chris’s skillful ball handling, passing and trapping were all eclipsed by two his fantasticly placed goals. He had two good chances for more, but could only score 50% of his shots. Not too shabby. We name him man of the match for this third game of the 2010 season.

We were a tad disappointed with the fan attendance, which came in at 3,061 officially. We Chattahooligans had hoped for a number closer to 4,000 after the throng that turned out the week prior, but we have to admit that number is still higher than our highest all last season. Fans: we appreciate you! Keep on coming out to games.

Some kudos: Richard Masters made at least two or three great saves again as he earned his second shutout of the season. The defense held strong and played with pluck and determination. Luis Salazar also combined nicely with Ochieng for several lovely combinations in the attacking end. And for the whole team: a win is a win is a win. Keep it up.

Some criticisms: Sasha Viatrov played very flat, his free kicks and passes just never found the mark. His sub Drew Courtney brought in some much needed hustle, but he also failed to make some passes that would’ve created some great opportunities for CFC. And defense, while you guys have been stalwart in keeping the opposition from scoring, you have had a bad habit of booting the ball clear. Send it to our midfielders! Glover and Heredia are more than capable of keeping possession and advancing the ball up the field. We at the Chattahooligan would like to see some more poise and control of the field. We know you can do it!

Overall, good job CFC. 3-0 to start the season and now first place is ours to lose. Let’s keep the pedal to the metal!
