Official word regarding Clint Dempsey’s knee injury suffered while playing in a match for Fulham in the Premier League has yet come in (as far as we know), but folks are speculating that it is “cruciate knee ligament damage”… The big question is how will the US prep for the World Cup this summer without him? And (horrors) what if he won’t be able to play?
Speculation and postulations abound, but we’d throw our vote to give Torres a fair shake in spot to see how he does.
What do you ’hooligans say?

Looks like Dempsey will be back on the field for Fulham before the end of this season so I am hoping he can just get match fit again before the summer.
Torres does need a fair shake but if there is something I’ve learned about BB is that if he doesn’t want to play someone they pretty much have a “snowballs chance in hades” to do so. Based on form, if everyone were fit this would be my starting 11 for the World Cup –
Davies —————————— Altidore
Dempsey — Bradley — Jones — Donovan
Beasley — Demerit — Gooch — Spector
—– Howard —–
The nice thing about this WC is that we actually have some depth in our squad. Most of the players are young and inexperienced on the international stage but options include –
Torres, Adu, Rogers, Castillo, Edu, Guzan, Feilhaber, Califf, Casey, Pearce, etc. That is different from years past and hopefully will help in this World Cup and our future development.
Yes Chrisbhoy, your assessment of Bob and the snowball seems to be quite accurate. So what is his future with the USMNT? Let’s say 2 scenarios:
1. The US makes it through the first round of the WC
2. The US fails to advance
Is Bob’s future as coach any different?
oh and yes, our tech wizard has it on his list of to-do’s to get the real twitter feed in place – it’s just hard when paying jobs squeeze out the spare time for labors of love.
Not sure about Molly and Miley’s relationship.
My best guess is that Bob will get a single World Cup cycle. If we don’t pull off something amazing (similar to ’02) I believe he end up hitting the showers. I think he is a very good technical coach and in the long run, would be an excellent part of training and conditioning for the Nats. That aside, I don’t think he has the passion and creativity to progress our program beyond it’s current level.
I am still a fan of Jürgen Klinsmann and think he would be a perfect fit to take over from Bob.
…Apologize for my grammar, “it’s” should be “its”. 3rd grade fail.
