Apparently today is the “really! no, we mean it this time” final final batch of tryouts at Finley Stadium from 12 – 3 pm. The word on the street is that there is some promising talent about to appear – while some other promising talent disappears. Here is an update on grist for the rumor mill:
The former Chicago Fire guy is a no-go. He moved away for a girl or a job or something silly like that.
His brother was one of the Wake Forest players, so perhaps the 2 guys from the number 3 NCAA team in the country are therefore not so interested in playing here.
Meanwhile, one of (if not THE) top players in Dalton is trying out. Apparently he played at Berry College and is a beast of a man – as well as a beast of a striker.
There are whispers that both Omar and Fynn are returning for a second season.
Some fellow from Kenya looks to be a great addition to the team.
Assistant coach Jimmy Weekley has recruited some players from his old FL stomping ground to come and tryout… supposedly they will have what is called “skills.”
So keep an eye out faithful: your team should be pretty finalized after today. And let us know if a little birdy tells you anything ; )

Update from what we saw yesterday (and hour and a half of the three hour tryout). Mostly all from watching the full field scrimmage:
High quality of play: good speed and foot skills, great passing, nice goals and saves, overall very nice to watch. The players seemed to gel very quickly with each other, which is a good sign of things to come…
No "beast" guy from Dalton/Berry College.
No players from FL. No players from Wake Forest.
One guy rumored to have been the leading scorer in the NAIA this past season (as a freshman no less!)… He looked good.
More players from last year present than were not, not there were: Fynn Glover, Irvin Espinal, Tim Sparks, John Simmons, Mark Beattie, Sasha Viatrov, and maybe Elliott Anderson.
Overall, the team looks to be even better than year. Very promising!
Elliot Anderson was there.
Touche! Elliot, our deepest apologies! We will not neglect to notice you in the future!
Definitely Omar. New shoes though. http://www.flickr.com/photos/perawate/4433136210/...
"beast guy" from Dalton/Berry College is Luis Salazar. He attended the previous tryout and is on the list for the March 27 scrimmages.
